Friday 24 February 2012 A Horror of Great Darkness: Gothic from the Brontės to Twilight ALEVEL GOTHIC DAY CONFERENCE The Brontė Parsonage Museum is pleased to present a varied one day conference for AS and A2 students, exploring the relationship between the Brontės and Gothic, and how the genre continues to influence contemporary culture. This conference will be particularly relevant to the AQA Literature B syllabus, but will be invaluable to all students wishing to gain a broadercritical perspective on both 19th cent literature, and the understanding of genre. EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS Haworth Parsonage was once the home of the Brontė family and is where Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontė wrote the books which have made them world famous, including Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights. The Parsonage Museum now provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the three sisters and of Victorian Haworth. It also offers an exciting, cross-curricular education service committed to imagination and creativity in learning. Take a look at what's on offer..... Please note: all charges include entry to the Parsonage High Waving Heather KS2 KS3 Explore the unique habitat of the moors which so inspired the Brontė family, in our exciting new workshop. Discover the creatures and plants that live there, and find out about how people have changed the landscape, and what we can do to help protect it. This is a cross curricular workshop, and is particularly relevant to science (Life Processes), history (Victorian Britain, Local History), geography (How the Environment is Changing), and citizenship, although it can be designed to fit your requirements. £7.00 per pupil - 1 hour 30 mins, £8.50 per pupil - 2 hours 30 mins &
Hands on History KS1 KS2 Through a range of intriguing objects these sessions encourage a hands-on approach to the lives and works of the famous Brontė family, and explores ideas of how objects are used in museums. Brontės Alive KS2 KS3 KS4 Introduce pupils to the worlds created in the Brontė novels by taking part in one of our drama workshops. With costume, props and a short simple script children enter into the vivid lives of the characters in Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights. Everyone gets a part in this fun and lively workshop. Victorian School Lesson KS1 KS2 KS3 Step back in time, and bring to life the actual school room the Brontės themselves taught in. Dress in costume and come and experience how different school would have been for children in the Victorian times in this exciting new workshop. Scribblemania KS2 KS3 KS4Follow in the Brontės' footsteps through one of our creative writing workshops. Using artefacts, the atmospheric rooms of the Parsonage and the surrounding landscape as inspiration, these workshops give you the chance to become Scribblemaniacs and produce some writing of your own. £5.75 (Half day workshops also available) Interpretations of Wuthering Heights A, A/S level Interpretations of Jane Eyre A, A/S level What were the reactions to the novels Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre when they were first published? How have our ideas about their meaning changed since? Explore some of the intriguing theories and endless re-interpretations of these fascinating novels £6.75 per student Background on the Brontės KS3, 4, A/S, A2 Level, Higher Education and adult groups This informal talk offers a good over all view of the Brontės lives and works and gives some historical and social context to their writing. It also offers some fascinating insights into everyday life in the Parsonage! This talk can be adapted to the particular requirements of groups and there is lots of opportunity for questions and discussion.
